Natural conversations with a clear research purpose
The moderator’s role is to help respondents explain their experience while keeping the discussion connected to the research objective. That takes more than following a guide: it means listening for what is said, what remains unclear and where a different question may reveal more useful detail.
Neutral questions and thoughtful probing
Questions should not point respondents towards a preferred answer. Follow-up prompts explore important details and reasons, giving people room to use their own language. The aim is to understand their perspective, including experiences that challenge the assumptions in the brief.
Attention to participation and context
In groups, moderation needs to balance more vocal and quieter participants. Across discussions, it is important to notice contradictions and answers shaped by what seems socially acceptable. Respondent language and context help the team interpret those answers without drawing conclusions too quickly.

Nopporn is a Bangkok-based moderator and qualitative researcher with qualitative research experience since 2014. He has been Co-Founder of RAAKDIN since 2022. His background includes proposal development, screening questionnaires, focus-group moderation, discussion guides and insight synthesis from qualitative research reports.
